This problem seems worse in the PC version than the Xbox 360 version. of human enemies for this game was widely mocked, as they often do things like run back and forth between cover points at random without actually stopping to use the cover to shoot at anything, even when being shot at. Other times however, you have to do really trivial things like strumming a guitar, which doesn't make sense. If you take it, you get no points, but have her keep it and you get points, which makes sense. The mother will then offer you ammo and you can either take it or have her keep it.
While the game has two different endings, the steps to get the secret one requires you to build up moral points.When hit by an enemy you'll turn left or right, which can be disorienting.The movement is really clunky as you feel sluggish when turning and even sprinting.In terms of the ending, what was supposed to happen was that Artyom makes contact with the Dark Ones, realizing his nightmares and visions were their way of trying to communicate with him, just as the missiles to destroy them are about to land.This would also explain why the Dark Ones are trying to communicate with him. The reason why Artyom does anything in the game is because as a child he opened a gateway that allows the Dark Ones to come into their world believing he's responsible for many people dying at his home, but the game lacks this context. This also affects the ending since the game doesn't explain what's exactly happening since you go through all these trippy visions with no real explanation. The biggest problem with the game is how it doesn't articulate certain aspects of the book well and thus making the story confusing.
